TRAVEL INSURANCE RECOMMENDED

  1. Departure time is 7:30 AM day of departure (June 20, 24 etc) from the Shell FBO at the Winnipeg Airport, 30 Hangar Line Road. (Phone 204 948 9500) Parking is available, but charged for and limited. Reservations must be made. The plane returns to the main terminal. (T=Travel)
  2. Recommended hotel: Four Points Sheraton, directly across the street from the terminal. It is within walking distance. (Phone 204 775 5222) Discounted rates for North of Sixty guests. They have two parking lots and charge guests for parking. They provide transportation to the plane in the morning. Note: They do not have shuttle service from the airport because they are less than one block away. Therefore, do not ask for a shuttle to our charter flight. Ask to schedule a time for transportation to the North of Sixty Camps charter flight. T
  3. Color coded baggage tags for each camp will be provided and must be on luggage prior to boarding the plane in Winnipeg. The charter company has a manifest with your name . Identification will be required prior to boarding. T
  4. Travel Agencies: North of Sixty works with two companies that provide discounted FISH FARES and TRAVEL INSURANCE.
Travel Advisors for Northwest Airlines and some United flights. (Katie 800 403 2920)
Canada One Travel is the other for United and Air Canada (Megan 866 401 9900)
Check with both companies to insure you have the best fare available.
Travel Guard is an option for Travel Insurance (866 877 3241)
We do not save any money when you miss the trip. T
  5. Weight: 45 pounds including everything but carry on. Carry on is limited to 5 pounds that must fit under the seat. Overhead storage limited to soft items, such as clothing. It will be weighed before boarding and excess will not be allowed. T
  6. Keep all personal items with you on the plane. (medication, passport, license, etc.) Keep your fishing license in your possession at all times when fishing. T
  7. Charter Schedule to Obre Lake (KV4) IFR airstrip is 7:30AM via Nolinor Aircraft 50 passenger Convair 580 arrival 10:15 AM Central time. Departure Baggage weighed by 10 AM then loaded on plane after arrival, normal departure 11:30 AM arrival in Winnipeg 3 to 3:30 PM... Light Breakfast served on flight to Obre. T
  8. Upon arrival at Obre, guests proceed to the lodge for a buffet. For guests staying at the lodge, their luggage will be taken to their cabin. For guests flying to mini-lodge, their luggage will be staged near the float dock. ALL GUEST MUST CHECK LUGGAGE prior to boarding plane for mini-lodge. If it does not go with you, it will not come at a later time. T
  9. Luggage lost by airlines will be left with the airlines in Winnipeg and will not be brought to North of Sixty. We will do our best to help provide you with missing items. T
  10. Loaner tackle is available (bait casting and spinning gear with lures). Pay for what you loose or break. (F=Fishing)
  11. Meals: Breakfast 7 to 9 AM, Dinner 6 to 8 PM. If you arrive later, there will be a meal. Try to let the camp manger know in advance.
  12. Guide hours are normally 8am to 5pm. If you want different hours, make arrangements with the camp manager. Guests can fish on there own without a guide and they can share guides. (L=Lodge)
  13. Catch and Release: Eat all the shore lunch you desire. If you want fish for dinner, let the cooks know and bring it in with you. Please bring it in cleaned as we do not want to attract bears. F
  14. Photos: We have hundreds of photos and prefer that you keep the fish in the cradle or water. The larger fish cannot support their body weight out of the water. F
  15. Anchors: We do not provide. They are normally used to hold boats in fast water. Guests often have problems getting them free and have fallen in trying. F
  16. Motors: We use two stroke motors. We have found them to be far more reliable and safer without loosing fuel economy. Smaller motors, 25 HP two stroke instead of 40 HP four stroke. Mini-lodge: 15 HP two stroke instead of 25 HP four stroke. We use a rock guard on all of our boats that protect the lower units as well as the prop. With the larger four stroke motors we can lose the entire lower unit. Guests do not need to travel a great distance. Yes, guides will travel farther to their secret place. F
  17. FLY ROD FISHING: EXCELLENT for Grayling, Pike and Lake Trout. Earlier in the season is normally better. Fast water for Grayling, Lake Trout and Pike. Shallow water for Pike and early for Trout. Experienced guides with platform on boats at Obre. We do not like waders in fast water. Water is cold. F
  18. Fly outs: Yes, we have them out of the main lodge, but are not required. We also have two walk-in lakes with boats and motors. Overnight fly outs are also available from the main lodge to our mini-lodges. Minimum requirements apply. L
  19. Mini-lodges have three cabins with propane furnaces, central flush toilets and hot showers. N Wholdaia, Snowbird mini-lodge and Annauathad have toilets in cabin. North Snowbird-one bathroom for two bedrooms. One building attached to mini-lodge. Chef prepares your breakfast and dinner. Shore lunch or sandwiches for lunch. (M=Mini-Lodge)
  20. Obre Lodge cabins have all emenities including refrigerator (we stock with what you desire) and daily maid service. L
  21. Insurance for guests without a guide is available. For over 90% of our guests, this is not required. However, we do have guests who try to take boats and motors where they are not allowed and up rapids that are not navigable. Therefore, this affects everyone. Boats and motors are inspected prior to departure to insure they are in good condition. M
  22. Depth gauges: We use portable bottom line that fit into a bracket over the side. They must be removed when going fast. Many guests like them and many do not. We have had numerous problems with fixed transducer type depth gauges and recommend you bring your own. If you need a battery, we have them. Let us know in advance. M
  23. GPS: We once had them available... No longer. Please bring your own. We have coordinates for most of our lakes. However we will not provide for North Snowbird, Ingalls or Casimir. F
  24. BEST LAKES FOR PIKE? They are all good, however the camps located closer to pike waters are Ingalls, South Wholdaia, North Wholdaia F
  25. BEST LAKES FOR TROUT? Camps closer are North Snowbird, Casimir, Flett, Anaunethad F
  26. BEST LAKES FOR GRAYLING? Same answer (excluding Flett) North Wholdaia, Casimir, F
  27. Obre Lake Lodge - Lake Trout, Pike, Grayling on five different lakes. L
  28. Tackle: We recommend 12 to 15 pound test line. Fight the fish a little longer. Loosen the break when they take line out. The drag will tighten the more line you have out. ADJUST THE BRAKE WITH LINE OUT. This will prevent the line from breaking and the hook tearing making a larger opening in its mouth. F
  29. Flies and Mosquitoes: June is normally safe from both on the lake. It normally gets into the 80's in July and both come out. Weather has varied greatly in last three years.
  30. Lures: Smaller lures early in the year, larger lures later. Meps five, spinners, large flat fish, 3" to 5" Daredevils, jack of diamond, silver spoons, Doctor spoons, Red Eye spoons, Muddler Minnow, Tarpon fly, Pacific Salmon Bucktail. For Grayling - Poppers, Stonefly Nymphs, Wolly worm, Black Gnats, Black Leech. DON'T FORGET YOUR MOUTH SPREADER AND NEEDLE NOSE F
  31. Mini-lodge guest need to bring a light sleeping bag and pillow case. Pillows provided. M
  32. Mosquito coils at camp. However, use when not in cabin. L/M
  33. This is your trip. What can we do to make it more enjoyable for you?
